Dental Anxiety? Consider Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry Milwaukee WI

Do you freeze up at the mere thought of going to the dentist? You aren’t alone – estimates show that as many as 40 million Americans experience some dental anxiety!

Of course, telling you that you are not alone doesn’t help a lot. But it does show you that dental fear is a common problem, and you shouldn’t feel embarrassed or ashamed about sharing your concerns with us. Once we know you are anxious, our sedation dentist, Dr. Monteagudo, can offer two very effective options right here at our Milwaukee office.

Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” has been safely used in dentistry for over 150 years. We think that’s a pretty good track record! We like using it because it gently relaxes our patients so they can get the care they need. Patients like it because it helps them feel safe, secure, and removed from the sights and sounds of a dental office.

The effects of nitrous oxide are gentle, will not put you to sleep, and wear off as soon as we stop administering it. This means that you can schedule a dental appointment, have the necessary work done, then go on with your day as usual!

Oral sedation is another option. This sedation technique works well for people who need a little more than nitrous to get them through their appointment. Our sedation dentist will prescribe an anti-anxiety medication for you to take before you get to our Milwaukee office. When you arrive, you will be relaxed and ready for your appointment. Please note that the effects of oral sedation last longer than nitrous so you will need a designated driver to get you to and from your appointment.

Either type of sedation is effective when used alone, but we can provide a truly relaxing experience by combining them. Once you experience the effects of nitrous, oral sedation, or a combination of both, we believe you will be well on your way to overcoming dental anxiety!
