Dental Emergencies in Milwaukee, WI

Dental emergencies can happen at any time. That is why we focus on prevention at our West Allis dental office. In spite of all of the planning in the world, we know that unexpected dental problems arise. We want you to know that we are here for you in the event of a dental emergency.

When is it a Dental Emergency?

If you have an accident that involves hitting your head, dizziness, or uncontrolled bleeding, you should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You may have injuries that require more immediate attention than your teeth. We will be here for you once we make sure that nothing more serious is happening.

Otherwise, you should call us right away if you are experiencing dental pain or if you have lost a restoration. The sooner you contact us, the sooner we can provide emergency dental care and help you feel comfortable again.

Common Dental Emergencies

Some of the most common dental emergencies include:

  • Fractured teeth
  • Sore gums
  • Lost tooth
  • Broken or lost restoration
  • Infection
  • Abscess
  • Extreme sensitivity
  • Pain

If you experience any of these symptoms do not hesitate to give us a call. We can ask you the proper questions in order to determine the next step. For most dental emergencies, an office visit is required. If you call during business hours, we will do our best to see you on the same day.

Dr. Roberto Monteagudo understands that dental emergencies can be stressful, frightening, and inconvenient. Our team is compassionate and warm. We will never make you feel guilty for having an emergency. We just want to help you feel better!

Your Emergency Appointment

When you call our office, it is important that you share as much information as you can about the nature of your dental emergency. We will ask you questions that will help us prepare for your arrival and be able to treat you efficiently. If you lost a restoration, such as a dental crown, please bring it with you to your appointment. In some cases, we can reattach it. If you have a partial denture or complete denture, it is important that you bring those, as well.

Once you arrive at our office, Dr. Monteagudo will evaluate your condition and we will take a digital x-ray of the area to determine the cause of your emergency. If possible, we will treat your condition immediately. In the event that we need to reschedule you for treatment on another day, we will at least help you feel comfortable and provide you with a temporary solution until a permanent one can be arranged.

Are You Experiencing Pain?

Dental emergencies rarely resolve on their own and in many cases, they get worse. Putting off treatment for too long can cause more extensive problems and puts your teeth at risk. Call us right away. Our entire team at WisconsinSmiles is committed to helping you feel like yourself again.

Frequently Asked Questions

The good news is that, with all the options available in the field of dentistry today, Dr. Monteagudo can most likely find the perfect solution for your particular case. Bone grafting is certainly a possibility, but we can’t really know that until we’ve had a chance to perform a thorough assessment of your current condition.

Issues With Denture Fit

At WisconsinSmiles, we encourage our patients to seek help as soon as possible if they’re already experiencing some problems. To determine if you’re having a problem, look for things like using denture adhesives excessively, the need to chew only soft food, inability to taste some foods, and constant irritation and mouth sores.

You may have also noticed a change in your appearance because the position of your teeth and dental bite may have changed. For instance, in some cases, the nose and chin actually look like they’re getting closer together.

The sooner we address the problem with dental implants the more options you have open to you for treatment. Are you experiencing any of the above symptoms? If so, implants could very well be the answer for you. Please give our office a call to arrange a convenient consultation with Dr. Monteagudo to discuss your case.

Some general dentists, including our emergency dentist in Milwaukee, WI, treat dental emergencies. If you have a dental emergency, seeking care as soon as possible is crucial to ease pain and restore oral health.

Common Dental Emergencies

Toothaches are the most common dental emergencies. Typically, they result from a deep tooth infection requiring immediate treatment with your dentist.

Other dental emergencies include:

  • Oral pain
  • Oral swelling
  • Broken tooth
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Broken restoration
  • Oral injury

With timely treatment, your dentist can sometimes save a knocked-out tooth. However, if a tooth cannot be saved by restoring, treating, or crowning, we’ll talk to you about tooth replacement. Replacing missing teeth is vital to your long-term oral health and confidence.

You can lower your risks for dental emergencies through regular exams and dental cleanings, brushing, and flossing. You should also talk to us about a mouthguard if you compete in athletics.

Through your dentist’s diligence and your at-home efforts, you can significantly lower your risks for tooth decay, dental infections, and oral injuries.
